Self-nominations to serve on the board of the Hiddenbrooke Property Owners Association (HPOA) are due by May 6, 2023, using the form you can download here:
The HPOA is a non-profit, mutual benefit association of the 1,134 Hiddenbrooke property owners in Vallejo, California. All property owners “in good standing” may vote annually to fill the Board of Director seats. The board consists of 5 directors with 3 of those seats up for re-election this May (Laurie Foster, Bob Schussel, and Troy Killorn). The other 2 directors (Joseph Joslin and James Campagna) have terms that are deliberately staggered to end in June 2024 so there’s no risk of all new board members in any one election. Since Joseph isn’t up for election, I spoke with him about what it means to serve on the board. “I see our primary board responsibility as making decisions that are implemented by the association management company that we hire to do the actual administration work,” Joseph told me. “Since our HPOA doesn’t own any common area property, the legal requirements are much less than they might be otherwise. As Directors, we are expected to participate in bi-monthly open board meetings and monthly executive sessions. All meetings are conducted on Zoom so no physical presence is required. The annual membership meeting in June is usually held at the golf course but last year was simulcast on Zoom as well. Any property owner in good standing may run for the Board, but it’s ideal to have candidates who have a management or administrative background and/or have participated in past HPOA meetings or committees. Before joining the Board, I served on the Hiddenbrooke Architectural Review Committee (HARC).”
After the self-nomination process closes on May 6, RealManage, our association management firm, will prepare and distribute the Annual Meeting Notice which includes the ballot and candidates’ statements. Ballots will be due back to RealManage by June 14 so they may be tallied with the new board directors announced at the annual meeting on June 21. To be sure you receive your ballot, verify your contact preferences by logging into the Hiddenbrooke Resident Portal at www.ciranet.com/residentportal and click on My Account, Contact Information.

Brian Nakamoto put it best when he commented recently on NextDoor: “IMHO, the current board seems to be doing fine. I appreciate the work they put in to help govern Hiddenbrooke. However, it’s a shame that members don’t get to vote when there aren’t more candidates than available board seats (like last time). Skipping an election might save money but fails to engage the electorate.”
