Brenda Plechaty is running for the District 1 seat on the Vallejo City Council on November 4, 2024. She invites all her Hiddenbrooke neighbors to a meet-and-greet ice cream social at Hiddenbrooke Park (7108 Alder Creek Road) on Sunday, April 21 from 1-3pm.
Brenda has lived in Vallejo for 27 years, 11 of them here in Hiddenbrooke. She says candidly “I’ve watched our community go downhill and figured that I can’t complain if I’m not prepared to do something.” She has been doing lots of things, including leadership roles in the City’s Civil Service Commission and Marina Advisory Committee, and founding the non-profit Traumatic Brain Injury Caregiver’s Support Group. I got to know her in her role as President of the Straits of Mare Island Rowing Association (see https://neighborexchange.org/rowboat/) . Congressman John Garamendi named her a Women of the Year in October 2023 for making “significant contributions to society through public service, business, education, and local economy.”
Brenda’s campaign website at https://www.brenda4citycouncil.com/ details her credentials, experience, and reasons for running. In a conversation with me, she concisely recapped how she would work to help the City put public safety first, attract more businesses, and simplify the permitting process. Brenda is eager to get the many non-profit groups working together and for better engagement with volunteers to bring more City pride. Brenda’s website has a link for people to donate to her “total grassroots” campaign. She believes she may need to raise as much as $8,000 for campaign expenses. The incumbant cannot run for relection due to term limits.
I’m eager to hear more about what Brenda has in mind, and meet other Hiddenbrooke neighbors who want to see her succeed, at the upcoming meet-and-greet event. I hope to see you there.
