Paul Tucker is ashamed of other plumbers who seem to drive into Hiddenbrooke, look around at the nice houses, and increase their prices. “I had someone tell me they were quoted $3,200 for a common water heater replacement that I charged $1,300 to do for them,” said Paul in a recent interview with me.
Paul Tucker proudly wears his “Paul the Plumber” t-shirt when serving his Hiddenbrooke neighbors. “I prefer to work within our neighborhood because I live here and I’ve learned how these homes are built. Homes in our community are now over 20 years old so it’s common for the faucets, water heaters, and pressure values to need replacement. But I’m encouraged by how well our sewage systems are installed because I’ve yet to receive a sewer pipe back-up repair call which would be common in communities like ours,” Paul says. “All in all, I’ve learned that homes here are well constructed, but some of the repairs by homeowners and other plumbers can be substandard. “For example, my most challenging plumbing repair so far in our community was narrowing down a wall leak that no one else could find. The homeowner knew it was behind his Jack and Jill sink cabinet, but at the time he would not let me open up anymore of the wall to find it. Six months later when a restoration crew finally removed the cabinet, they located the leak exactly where I had thought: a nail had been hammered through the wall and into the pipe by a previous owner.
Paul Tucker has nearly 25 years of plumbing experience. He’s worked in new construction and multi-family properties, but for the last 10 years he’s focused on single-family home repairs. He likes being a one-person shop. His only regret is that his teenagers have no interest in taking over the family business.
