I enjoyed my time as a volunteer at last year’s Sonoma International Film Festival. The annual Festival features more than 100 films, representing 29 countries, screening at various venues throughout Sonoma, plus two culinary showcase events, and themed parties, panels and more. This year, the 26th annual event will be March 22-26.
As a venue assistant volunteer, I helped usher pass holders into the screenings and other guest relations duties. In return, my perks included an event T-shirt, food vouchers, and film tickets to see another film during my off-duty time. Last year’s schedule featured a special evening reception and dinner honoring legendary chef Jacque Pepin who is a favorite of my wife and me. We purchased tickets for that event and got a photo with the guest of honor. The unique dinner featured short films before each course with local wine pairings. This year’s festival schedule includes a similar event honoring chef Martin Yan.
